RATSHAKER begins with an intriguing premise: And, unlike many other sports, a player shakes a challenge right in the face, challenging it right back with submission. Its title offers a more honestly sinister twist on exploration, psychological horror, walking simulator, and occasional burst of arcade SECOND. The game’s titular mechanic takes center stage: touching and moving a mouse icon can turn into something symbolic like shaking a virtual ‘rat’.

Movement can be calculated based on the number of times the player gets frustrated, e.g. by falling into water, getting stuck in other impossible situations and executing simple but stunning plans such as hiding continuing plots behind ordinary moves. Essentially it is storytelling combined with game playing for which the presentation assumes a linear Solution-based puzzle.

Being a first-person game, RATSHAKER plunges you into a perception and patience game environment that is incredibly surreal. Each shake isn’t just a problem-solving task, but a communication, or can be at least, an encounter that can generate more than one intended outcome.

The user moves sequentially from one element of the clicker and gets lost in meaning through sequence, but on a random basis. What lies underneath the comic is tension – not just the sense of suspense that is inherent in any mystery. The design also focuses on absurdity so as to keep the user attentive. Users will first play smiling at the concept and then are stuck higher with a message and meaning. Mechanics of hidden objects demand patience and detailed observation besides simple acts of scanning.
