Alright, here’s the deal: a crazy scientist, Ryuji Hirasaka, receives a proposal he cannot decline from one of the victims of his ідущтэнсіа. This ‘90s visual novel is back and comes with a new localization into English, all-Japanese cast voice-overs, and a storyline that is utterly insane and yet equally engaging. Okay, Hirasaka is an egomaniac with no social skills at all, he ends up at St. Juliana Hospital, a former victim of Narumi Jinguji’s who convinces him to help her construct the most corrupt hospital ward ever. Will this chaotic genius when put the idea into motion or is he truly a train wreck that cannot even do that?

Then there’s the cast. Ren is a sweet-natured nurse who could possibly be too harmless for this world; Ako is beautiful, and oh so polite; and Hikaru: the troublemaker who could burn Hirasaka with her words alone. Join them with Remi, a self-absorbed but talented girl who would do anything for perfection with her biting words to Seiichirou and Makoto, the head surgeon’s daughter who treats Hirasaka like a dog, and you’ve got a group that’s not afraid to stir things up. They are all targets for Narumi’s “special ward,” but the amusing twists they add with special interests, strengths, and sometimes obvious weaknesses make them even more exciting.

Finally and most notably there is the real power Narumi That’s where the string behind the puppet is hidden. She is talented, gorgeous and expressionless – it’s not clear why she helps Hirasaka at all. Is she plotting revenge Playing some long con? Or does she really subscribe to his mania as being genius? However it is, the issues are important, the characters are antagonistic, and the shenanigans are perennial. Both Night Shift and Madness are depicted as one shift since these characters are just as insane as the doctor who narrates the story.
