This is not your run-of-the-mill narrative but info-dumping concentrated and experienced at its best, with no overwhelm of details all around you. It starts off simple: an empty, snowy map. From there it extended further into queer places like swimming pool and ocean and the feelings associated with them are mystical.

It doesn’t take you by the hand and lead you through the process. Sure, it might give you a something to do in that direction, but it still falls on you as a person to think for yourself. As there are no monsters, no complex puzzle solving involved and it is just you and this abandoned world. Strolling in narrow corridors, turning into the blind, or entering a large, apparently unoccupied space may be a rather uncomfortable experience, and this is the idea. That is your objective in such films – to witness what lies beneath the serenity; what is hidden in these interiors.

It’s worth pointing out how spartan Liminal Universe is—no words, no screen, no sound. Instead, it’s all about the sounds: the sound of your own footsteps as if you are in a vacuum, the sound of equipment still processing and the oppressive quietness that envelopes all. Each click makes one sink deeper into this rather creepy world designed more for sensation than gameplay.
