Isonzo is a first-person tactical shooter, completely immersing players into the brutal battles of World War I, one that is focused on the oft-overlooked Italian Front. Unlike many of their WWI counterparts, authenticity and historical accuracy characterize this indie game. Researchers drew from firsthand research and trips to the actual battle sites in making their recreated version of the weaponry, uniforms and terrain of the time to increase the immersive factor.

The game takes its name from the Isonzo River, the place for 12 fierce battles in the war and most of the action goes there, including the rugged Alpine landscape. However, the ability to fight for either Austria-Hungary or the Kingdom of Italy adds action to strategic depth in Isonzo. Gameplay is part of a thematic series from the same studio that had already released games like Verdun and Tannenberg, but Ison zo brings a totally new experience in its historical mode, “Offensive”. Here the player would have to do tactical missions against mountain warfare in the Alps, storm fortifications, navigate through ruined cities, and fording rivers in this bitter battle environment.

Now comes the range of specializations as snipers, engineers, and machine gunners, each carrying his own skills. Equipment can be taken from the player’s style, and this game will contain a variety of tactical elements – air support, mortar strikes, and poison gas in order to make the combat highly realistic and intense. Having a campaign forward with a rifle, or defending against enemy attacks armed with a machine gun, Isonzo offers a very immersive experience in the game WWI on the Italian Front, capturing the brutality of this rather forsaken theater with stunning detail.
